Welkom! Bienvenue! ¡Bienvenid@s! Irasshaimase!
Here, you can find links to some other good pages around the web and some information about me.
I am currently studying Eastern Christian Theology
through the the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute at
Saint Paul University in Ottawa,
Canada. After I graduate in 2009, I intend to study Syriac at the Saint
Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute (a Regional and Research Centre of
the Mahatma Gandhi University) in
Kottayam, Kerala, India. After that, I hope to study liturgy at the Pontifical
Oriental Institute in Rome, Italy.
From 2004 to 2006, I worked for Bread for the World (a non-profit "nationwide Christian citizens movement seeking justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision makers" and "by engaging in
research and education on policies related to hunger and development").
I was Bread for the World's Northeast Regional Faith Outreach Organizer for the
ONE Campaign to Make Poverty History.
I graduated from Leland Stanford Junior University in 2004.
I double-majored in International Relations and Religious Studies, and I also completed a minor in Human Biology and a secondary major in
Political Science.
In my last year at Stanford, I participated in the Public Service Scholars Program, through which I did research on secularization in the Catholic Church in the Netherlands.
During my time at Stanford, I lived in Synergy House ('98-'99, '02-'03), a vegetarian co-op; Hammarskjöld House ('00-'01), which is Stanford's International House and also a co-op; and Larkin House ('97-'98), an all-freshman dorm in Stern Hall.
In addition, I spent two years ('01-'02, '03-'04) living off campus in Palo Alto (and during those two years, I was an Eating Associate at Synergy).
The last year I was in "Box of Rain", one of the "Dead Houses"; for more info about the Dead Houses, check out
this article in the Stanford Daily, though it's a bit dated.
During the '99-'00 school year, I studied at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where I took mostly
Political Science courses, as well as a few courses in Church History and Law.
I am a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory, a Roman Catholic Christian school taught in the Jesuit tradition and located in San José, California.
In the summer of 1999, I participated in a Fellowship called "Explorations in Spirituality and Service" offered by Stanford's Deans for Religious Life. The summer before that (1998), I was an intern at the United Religions Initiative.
Feel
free to take a look at my résumé.
I am currently involved in an attempt to persuade the government of the Netherlands
to give children born before 1985 of Dutch mothers the option to acquire Dutch
citizenship, in the same way that all children of Dutch fathers automatically
receive Dutch citizenship.
I'm quite interested in religion, as well as in social
justice.
Two of my hobbies are Scouting and capoeira.
Please take a look at Remembering Minna, a page about Minna Sandmeyer, a friend of mine who died a few years ago.
